★ PARACONSISTENT NEWSLETTERS ★
Interviews 2016-2021
Parconsistency is a an important field of logic. A logical system is said to be paraconsistent, a term coined in 1976 by Fancisco Miró Quesada at the request of Netwon da Costa, if it has a negation not obyeing the principle of non-contradiction. This principle was considered during many centuries as a fundamental basis of reasoning and/or of reality. Many paraonsistent systems have been presented during the 20th and 21st centuries. The paraconsistent newsletter provides information about paraconsistency: systems of paraconsistent logic, philosophical discussions surrounding them and their applications.
I started my research in logic in 1989 by doing a Master Thesis on Mathematical Logic on paraconsistent logic.
Altough since then I have been working also on many other topics, in particular developing the Universal Logic Project, I have continuously been working on Paraconsistent Logic, publishing papers
(see a list of about 50 papers here) and books (Handbook of Paraconsistency,
New Directions in Paraconsistent Logic), organizing workshops and congresses (WCP 2003, WCP 2014) and producing this Paraconsistent Newsletter. JYB
WHY A PARACONSISTENT NEWSLETTERS ?
(1) To maintain regular contact with people interested in paraconsistent logic in a light way.
(2) To give the latest news about paraconstent logic.
(3) To develop interaction among scholars working in paraconsistent logic.
(4) To make better known paraconsitent logic among scholars not specialized in the field.
THE ORIGIN OF THE PARACONSISTENT NEWSLETTER
(1) I started the paraconsistent newsletter (PNL) in 2003 when I was working in Swtizerland.
(2) I was ciruclating the PNL via email, four times a year, a seasonal newsletter.
(3) The PNL had a guessing question, list of fortchoming events, recent publications and webresources, see
sample here.
(4) My then PhD student Alexandre Costa Leite was helping me to produce this PNL until 2007.
THE WEB VERSION OF THE PARACONSISTENT NEWSLETTER
(1) I decided in February 2016 to publish the PNL with a new format, a web format.
(2) An additional feature of the web version of the PNL is an interview.
(3) Since the edition of Spring 2017 there is a video section. From time to time an obtuary section.
(4) Since the edition of Spring 2020, the PNL instead of having the name of one season has the name of two seasons, considering the two hemispheres of the earth.
PARACONISTENT NEWSLETTER 2016-2021: TWENTY INTERVIEWS, MORE COMING
(1) An important new feature of the webversion of the Paraconsistent Newsletter is the interview section. It is based on three questions, always the same.
(2) In the interviews there is some basic information about the interviewees and references to their works.
(3) So far 20 scholars from all over the world have been interviewed.
(4) More will be interviewed, the community of paraconsistentists is always growing.
